Travel to the island together with your guide, and upon arrival, get all prepped up with safety instructions and gear. With a manageable size of 12 miles by three, and the summit at 700 feet (267 meters), although rugged, Šolta’s terrain makes for a pleasant cross-country cycling environment. Ride through typical Dalmatian landscapes of vineyards and olive groves, lined with infinite puzzle-like drywalls. Immerse in the scents of wild Mediterranean herbs growing everywhere around you, especially rosemary which the island is famous for. Along the southern coast, ponder upon the vistas of the Central Dalmatian islands scattered like jewels on the sea and on the northern side, the skyline of Split in the distance. Travelling through picturesque villages, find your way to Grohote, the island’s main settlement. Here, the Tvrdić family will welcome you to the secrets of honey making, a longstanding tradition in their family and on Šolta. Learn about bees and beekeeping, explore bee hives and after hearing about their family production, try your hand at preparing your own jar to take home!
Following a delicious homemade lunch and some of Šolta’s authentic Dobričić red wine, continue the ride to the Olynthia Olive mill and discover yet another important tradition – olive oil making. After learning about the differences in traditional and modern production, see how olives are processed to get the oil and learn about its health benefits. Having enjoyed a day filled with nature, adventure, home atmosphere and learning, embark on your return transfer feeling healthier and happier, probably plotting your next return to Šolta.
The program is offered as a day trip if staying on Šolta or neighboring islands or coming to Šolta by boat.
