Wines of Istria

Modern tastes of classic Istrian varietals

Croatia’s largest peninsula takes winemaking as an integral part of its identity. With over 130 indigenous grape varieties and some of top Croatian winemakers, Istria is a heavenly journey for the curious wine lover. Among its highly individual wines, you will encounter some familiar names such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Muscat, but also the famed local varieties, such as white Malvasia or red Teran.

Travelling through the very heart of the Istrian peninsula, savour its rolling hills, intact nature and swirling roads. Your first visit is to the wine cellar of Ivica Matošević, the president of Istrian winemakers' association Vinistra. In a typical Istrian village setting, taste some of his famous labels like Alba or Grimalda. Learning about the hard work that goes into a bottle of wine, and understand the importance of winemakers' signature, as Ivica Matošević is especially known for his infinite passion to bottle up the true essence of this peninsula.
Then, enjoy the lovely views of the Lim canal as you drive towards the beautiful Meneghetti estate. Set amidst vineyards and olive groves, Meneghetti’s is one of the finest Croatian gourmet retreats, a typical historic estate turned into a 5* hotel and a wine cellar. After enjoying a tasting of their most popular vintages of Menghetti Red and White, indulge in their signature four course wine paired lunch menu, served on a backdrop of Meneghetti vineyards.
